The Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Development met at 8:48 a.m. this day, in Room 306 The Valour Building, the Chair, Dean Allison, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Dean Allison, David Anderson, Lois Brown, Marc Garneau, Peter Goldring, Hélène Laverdière and Gary Ralph Schellenberger.

 

Acting Members present: Blaine Calkins for Hon. Laurie Hawn, Fin Donnelly for Romeo Saganash and John Rafferty for Paul Dewar.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Allison Goody, Analyst; Brian Hermon, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: As individuals: Thomas Farr, Director, Religious Freedom Project, Georgetown University; Jonathan Dahoah Halevi, Jerusalem Center for Public Affairs. Apostolic Catholic Assyrian Church of the East: Emmanuel Joseph Mar-Emmanuel, Diocesan Bishop, Diocese of Canada.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, November 4, 2014, the Committee resumed its study of Canada's Response to the Violence, Religious Persecution and Dislocation Caused by the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL).
 

Thomas Farr, by teleconference from Washington, D.C., Emmanuel Joseph Mar-Emmanuel and Jonathan Dahoah Halevi made statements and answered questions.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee proceed to sit in camera.

 

At 10:41 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 10:43 a.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That in relation to the study of Canada's Response to the Violence, Religious Persecution and Dislocation Caused by the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), the Committee schedule four (4) additional public hearings.

 

At 10:51 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
