The Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Development met at 3:28 p.m. this day, in Room 306, La Promenade Building, the Chair, Dean Allison, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Dean Allison, David Anderson, Lois Brown, Paul Dewar, Marc Garneau, Peter Goldring, Nina Grewal, Hélène Laverdière, Romeo Saganash and Gary Ralph Schellenberger.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Allison Goody, Analyst; James Lee, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Restavek Freedom Foundation: Christine Buchholz, Vice President. Save the Children Canada: Patricia Erb, President and Chief Executive Officer; Will Postma, Vice President of Global Partnerships. Grand Challenges Canada: Peter Singer, Chief Executive Officer.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Wednesday, April 9, 2014, the Committee resumed its study of the Protection of Children and Youth in Developing Countries.
 

Peter Singer, Christine Buchholz, by videoconference from Washington, D.C., Patricia Erb and Will Postma, both by videoconference from Toronto, Ontario, each made a statement.

 

At 3:50 p.m., by unanimous consent and pursuant to Standing Order 115(5), it was agreed that the Committee continue to sit.

 

At 4:05 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:48 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

The witnesses answered questions.

 

At 5:31 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
