The Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Development met at 3:28 p.m. this day, in Room 306, La Promenade Building, the Chair, Dean Allison, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Dean Allison, David Anderson, Lois Brown, Marc Garneau, Peter Goldring, Nina Grewal, Hélène Laverdière, Romeo Saganash and Gary Ralph Schellenberger.

 

Acting Members present: Alex Atamanenko for Paul Dewar and Peggy Nash for Paul Dewar.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Allison Goody, Analyst; James Lee, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development: Andrew P.W. Bennett, Ambassador, Office of Religious Freedom; Tamara Guttman, Director General, Stabilization and Reconstruction Task Force; Matthew Levin, Director General, Europe and Eurasia Bureau; Dave Metcalfe, Director General, Europe, Middle East and Maghreb - Development. Department of Citizenship and Immigration: Mike MacDonald, Director General, Operational Management and Coordination. Canada-Ukraine Chamber of Commerce: Zenon Potoczny, President. Ukrainian Canadian Congress: Taras Zalusky, Executive Director, National Office.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Monday, February 3, 2014, the Committee commenced its study of the Situation in Ukraine.
 

Matthew Levin, Dave Metcalfe and Andrew P.W. Bennett each made a statement and, with Mike MacDonald and Tamara Guttman, answered questions.

 

At 4:25 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:30 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

Zenon Potoczny and Taras Zalusky each made a statement and answered questions.

 

At 5:17 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 5:18 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That a proposed budget in the amount of $6,000, for the study of the Situation in Ukraine, be adopted.

 

It was agreed, — That a proposed supplementary budget in the amount of $8,000, for the study of the Situation in Syria, be adopted.

 

At 5:22 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
