The Standing Committee on Access to Information, Privacy and Ethics met at 8:47 a.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, Pat Martin, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Charlie Angus, Paul Calandra, John Carmichael, Patricia Davidson, Jacques Gourde, Pat Martin, Tilly O'Neill Gordon and Mathieu Ravignat.

 

Acting Members present: Mark Adler for Earl Dreeshen, Royal Galipeau for Colin Mayes and Hon. John McCallum for Scott Andrews.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Dara Lithwick, Analyst; Maxime-Olivier Thibodeau, Analyst.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

Charlie Angus moved, — That, pursuant to Standing Order 108(3)(h)(iv), the Committee invite the Privacy Commissioner to appear before November 29, 2013, to present and explain the content of her 2012-13 Privacy Act Annual Report.

Debate arose thereon.

 

Paul Calandra moved, — That the Committee proceed to sit in camera .

 

The question was put on the motion and it was agreed to, by a show of hands: YEAS: 7; NAYS: 2.

 

At 8:56 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 8:57 a.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 

It was agreed, — That on November 19, 21, 26 and 28, 2013, the Committee receive a briefing from the analysts and consider the draft report in relation to the statutory review of the Conflict of Interest Act.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee study the growing problem of identity theft and its economic impact upon citizens and businesses and the steps that businesses and law enforcement agencies are taking to protect Canadians from identity theft; and that the Committee report its findings to Parliament.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee do now adjourn.

 

At 9:18 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
