The Standing Committee on Access to Information, Privacy and Ethics met at 10:59 a.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, for the purpose of electing a Chair, pursuant to Standing Order 106(1).

 

Members of the Committee present: Scott Andrews, Charmaine Borg, Paul Calandra, Patricia Davidson, Jacques Gourde, Hon. Laurie Hawn, Pat Martin, Tilly O'Neill Gordon, Mathieu Ravignat and Bob Zimmer.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Dara Lithwick, Analyst; Maxime-Olivier Thibodeau, Analyst. House of Commons: Suzie Cadieux, Procedural Clerk.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 106(2), the Clerk of the Committee presided over the election of a Chair.
 

On motion of Paul Calandra, it was agreed, — That Pat Martin be elected Chair of the Committee.

 
By unanimous consent, pursuant to Standing Order 106(2), the Clerk of the Committee proceeded to the election of Vice-Chairs.
 

On motion of Pat Martin, it was agreed, — That Patricia Davidson be elected First Vice-Chair of the Committee.

 

On motion of Patricia Davidson, it was agreed, — That Scott Andrews be elected Second Vice-Chair of the Committee.

 

At 11:02 a.m., Pat Martin took the Chair.

 
By unanimous consent, the Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

Charmaine Borg gave notice of the following motion:

That, following the allegations that the Communications Security Establishment Canada (CSEC) collected metadata on thousands of Canadians through the Wi-Fi networks in Canadian airports, the Committee undertake a study of the privacy implications and the legality of this CSEC activity and that the Committee report its findings back to the House

 

On motion of Paul Calandra, it was agreed, — That the Committee do now adjourn.

 

At 11:07 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
