The Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration met in a televised session at 3:31 p.m. this day, in Room C-110, 1 Wellington Street, the Vice-Chair, Lysane Blanchette-Lamothe, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Lysane Blanchette-Lamothe, Joe Daniel, Chungsen Leung, Hon. John McCallum, Costas Menegakis, Ted Opitz, Jasbir Sandhu, Devinder Shory and Rathika Sitsabaiesan.

 

Acting Members present: Dan Harris for Rathika Sitsabaiesan.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Sandra Elgersma, Analyst; James Gauthier, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment of New Zealand: Christine Hyndman, Manager, Immigration Policy; Lynda Byrne, Senior Advisor, Immigration Policy; Fraser Richards, Senior Solicitor, Corporate and Registries; Phillipa Guthrey, Manager, Immigration International. Yellow Brick House: Lorris Herenda, Executive Director. Maison Afghane-Canadienne (MAFCAN) : Humaira Madawa, Director. As an individual: Lorne Waldman, Barrister and Solicitor, Lorne Waldman & Associates.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Thursday, February 6, 2014, the Committee resumed its study on strengthening the protection of women in our immigration system.
 

At 3:33 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 3:35 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

By videoconference from Wellington, New Zealand, Christine Hyndman made a statement and, with Lynda Byrne, Fraser Richards and Phillipa Guthrey, answered questions.

 

At 4:18 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:21 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

Lorne Waldman, Humaira Madawa and Lorris Herenda made statements and answered questions.

 

At 5:19 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
