The Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food met in camera at 11:04 a.m. this day, in Room 8-53, 131 Queen Street, the Chair, Bev Shipley, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Malcolm Allen, Ruth Ellen Brosseau, Earl Dreeshen, Hon. Mark Eyking, Randy Hoback, Pierre Lemieux, LaVar Payne, Francine Raynault, Bev Shipley and Bob Zimmer.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Frédéric Forge, Analyst; Khamla Heminthavong, Analyst.

 
Pursuant to the Order of Reference of Wednesday, November 19, 2014 and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, November 25, 2014, the Committee resumed consideration of the Order of the House respecting the referral of the First Report of the Committee.
 

The Committee commenced consideration of a draft report.

 

It was agreed, — That pursuant to the Order of Reference of the House respecting the referral of the First Report of the Committee of Wednesday, November 19, 2014 and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, November 25, 2014, the Committee amend the report entitled Canada-European Union Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) and the Effects of it on the Canadian Agriculture Sector by adding a new recommendation as follows:

Recommendation 6

As recognized by the House of Commons, the Committee recommends that the Agreement represents an appropriate balance between creating opportunities for agricultural and food exporters and maintaining the system of supply management and, therefore, Canada's free trade agreement with the European Union should be implemented as negotiated.

 

It was agreed, — That the draft report, as amended, be adopted.

 

It was agreed, — That the Chair, Clerk and analysts be authorized to make such grammatical and editorial changes as may be necessary without changing the substance of the report.

 

It was agreed, — That, pursuant to Standing Order 109, the Committee request that the Government table a comprehensive response to the report.

 

It was agreed, — That the Chair present the report to the House.

 

At 11:19 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
