The Standing Committee on Veterans Affairs met at 3:31 p.m. this day, in Room 112-N, Centre Block, the Chair, Greg Kerr, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Sylvain Chicoine, Royal Galipeau, Parm Gill, Hon. Laurie Hawn, Bryan Hayes, Greg Kerr, Wladyslaw Lizon, John Rafferty and Peter Stoffer.

 

Acting Members present: Hon. Mark Eyking for Hon. Jim Karygiannis and Hon. Deepak Obhrai for Royal Galipeau.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Jean-Rodrigue Paré, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: NATO Veterans Organization of Canada: Gordon Jenkins, President, Head Office; Percy Price, Acting Director of Advocacy, Head Office. Royal Canadian Legion: Gordon Moore, Dominion President, Dominion Command; Brad White, Dominion Secretary, Dominion Command.

 
Pursuant to the Order of Reference of Thursday, October 17, 2013 and section 20.1 of the Enhanced New Veterans Charter Act, the Committee resumed the statutory review of the Act.
 

Gordon Moore, Gordon Jenkins and Percy Price made statements and, with Brad White, answered questions.

 

At 5:09 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 5:18 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That, for the following dates: Tuesday, March 25, Thursday, March 27, Tuesday, April 1, Thursday, April 3, Tuesday, April 8 and Thursday, April 10, 2014; the Committee extend its hours of sitting to accommodate hearing from more witnesses as part of the Comprehensive New Veterans Charter Review;

That the meetings take place from 3:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. for the aforementioned dates;

That the Chair determine the makeup of the panels;

That for the purposes of ensuring the additional time is dedicated to hearing from witnesses, the Chair not receive any substantive motions outside of the regular hours of the Committee (i.e. 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.); and

That in the event House of Commons votes disrupt proceedings, the Committee shall reconvene immediately following the votes to hear testimony from witnesses.

 

At 5:24 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
