The Standing Committee on Transport, Infrastructure and Communities met at 8:48 a.m. this day, in Room 228, La Promenade Building, the Chair, Merv Tweed, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Mark Adler, Olivia Chow, Hon. Denis Coderre, Isabelle Morin, Pierre Poilievre, Blake Richards, Mike Sullivan, Lawrence Toet, Merv Tweed and Jeff Watson.

 

Acting Members present: Anne-Marie Day for Robert Aubin and Dave MacKenzie for Ed Holder.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Allison Padova, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Discovery Air Innovations: Brian Bower, Vice-President, Fleets and Engineering; Garry Venman, Vice-President, Government Services. WestJet Airlines Ltd.: Geoffrey Tauvette, Director , Fuel and Environment. Top Aces Inc.: Didier Toussaint, President and Chief Executive Officer.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on September 26, 2011, the Committee resumed its study of Innovative Transportation Technologies.
 

Geoffrey Tauvette and Didier Toussaint made statements and, with Garry Venman and Brian Bower, answered questions.

 

At 10:36 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 10:37 a.m., the sitting resumed.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

Denis Coderre moved, — That the Committee defray the hospitality expenses related to a luncheon with the Railway Association of Canada on May 16, 2012.

 

The question was put on the motion and it was agreed to, by a show of hands: YEAS: 3; NAYS: 1.

 

Olivia Chow moved, — That, the Standing Committee on Transport, Infrastructure and Communities immediately commence a study on the subject matter of the sections of Bill C-38, An Act to implement certain provisions of the budget tabled in Parliament on March 29, 2012 and other measures, which directly fall within the mandate of this committee, namely Part 4, Division 31, Railway Safety Act; Part 4, Division 45, Canada Marine Act, and Part 4, Division 48, Canadian Air Transport Security Authority Act.

Debate arose thereon.

 

At 10:47 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
