The Standing Committee on Public Safety and National Security met in camera at 8:45 a.m. this day, in Room 306, La Promenade Building, the Chair, Kevin Sorenson, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Candice Bergen, Randall Garrison, Parm Gill, Hon. Laurie Hawn, Ryan Leef, Rick Norlock, LaVar Payne, John Rafferty, Jean Rousseau, Francis Scarpaleggia and Kevin Sorenson.

 

Acting Members present: Élaine Michaud for Rosane Doré Lefebvre.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Tanya Dupuis, Analyst; Christine Morris, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Canadian Police Knowledge Network: Sandy Sweet, President. Canadian Corps of Commissionaires: Capt(N) Paul Guindon, Chief Executive Officer, Commissionaires Ottawa; Col Douglas Briscoe, Executive Director, National Office.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That, pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Standing Committee on Public Safety and National Security invite officials from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, the Canadian Security and Intelligence Service, Public Safety Canada, Transport Canada and VIA Rail, to appear at a meeting to brief the Committee on current modes, systems and procedures for protecting rail transport in Canada, passengers and freight, against terrorism.

 

At 9:07 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 9:07 a.m., the sitting resumed in public.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, May 29, 2012, the Committee resumed its study of the economics of policing.
 

Sandy Sweet made a statement and answered questions.

 

At 10:01 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 10:02 a.m., the sitting resumed.

 

Captain(N) (Retired) Guindon made a statement and, with Colonel (Retired) Briscoe, answered questions.

 

At 10:08 a.m., Randall Garrison took the Chair.

 

At 10:11 a.m., Kevin Sorenson took the Chair.

 

At 10:46 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
