The Subcommittee on International Human Rights of the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Development met in camera at 1:09 p.m. this day, in Room 306, La Promenade Building, the Chair, Scott Reid, presiding.

 

Members of the Subcommittee present: Nina Grewal, Pierre Jacob, Wayne Marston, Scott Reid, Gary Ralph Schellenberger and David Sweet.

 

Acting Members present: Hon. John McKay for Hon. Irwin Cotler.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Erin Shaw, Analyst; Brian Hermon, Analyst.

 
The Subcommittee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Subcommittee business.
 

It was agreed, — That a proposed budget in the amount of $18,100, for the study of the human rights situation in Honduras, be adopted and that the Chair present the said budget to the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Development.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Subcommittee on Thursday, November 3, 2011, the Subcommittee resumed its study on the persecution of the Copt community in Egypt.
 

The Subcommittee resumed consideration of a draft report.

 

It was agreed, — That the draft report, as amended, be adopted.

 

It was agreed, — That the report be entitled: "Securing the Human Rights of Coptic Christians in Egypt after the Arab Spring: A View from Canada’s Parliament".

 

It was agreed, — That the Chair, Clerk and analysts be authorized to make such grammatical and editorial changes as may be necessary without changing the substance of the report.

 

It was agreed, — That, pursuant to Standing Order 109, the Subcommittee request that the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Development request that the Government table a comprehensive response to the report.

 

ORDERED, — That the Chair, or his designate, present the report to the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Development.

 

At 2:07 p.m., the Subcommittee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
