The Subcommittee on International Human Rights of the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Development met in camera at 1:03 p.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, the Chair, Scott Reid, presiding.

 

Members of the Subcommittee present: Hon. Irwin Cotler, Nina Grewal, Pierre Jacob, Wayne Marston, Scott Reid, Gary Ralph Schellenberger and David Sweet.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Erin Shaw, Analyst; Charlotte Landry, Analyst.

 
The Subcommittee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Subcommittee business.
 

It was agreed, — That the Subcommittee invite John Sifton to appear with Irshad Manji on November 27, 2012.

 

It was agreed, — That the Subcommittee invite Vladimir Kara-Murza to appear on December 11, 2012 with William Browder.

 

It was agreed, — That the Subcommittee take into consideration the Human Rights Watch report on Eritrea when considering its report on the human rights situation in Eritrea.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Subcommittee on Tuesday, January 31, 2012, the Subcommittee resumed its study of the human rights situation in Burma.
 

The Subcommittee resumed consideration of a draft report.

 

It was agreed, — That the draft report, as amended, be adopted.

 

It was agreed, — That the report be entitled: "Conflicting Realities: Reform, Repression and Human Rights in Burma".

 

It was agreed, — That the Chair, Clerk and analysts be authorized to make such grammatical and editorial changes as may be necessary without changing the substance of the report.

 

It was agreed, — That, the Subcommittee recommends that pursuant to Standing Order 109, the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Development request that the Government table a comprehensive response to the report.

 

It was agreed, — That the Chair of the Subcommittee present the report to the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Development and request that the Committee present the report to the House.

 

It was agreed, — That the Clerk of the Subcommittee, in consultation with the Chair, issue a comprehensive news release.

 

It was agreed, — That the Subcommittee recommend that the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Development hold a press conference and that the Clerk make the necessary arrangements.

 

At 1:45 p.m., the Subcommittee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
