The Standing Committee on Natural Resources met at 3:30 p.m. this day, in Room 268, La Promenade Building, the Chair, Leon Benoit, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Mike Allen, David Anderson, Leon Benoit, Blaine Calkins, Joan Crockatt, Claude Gravelle, Peter Julian, Ryan Leef, Laurin Liu, Jamie Nicholls and Brad Trost.

Acting Members present: Ted Hsu for Marc Garneau.

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Jean-Luc Bourdages, Analyst ; Milana Simikian, Analyst.

Witnesses: Sustainable Development Technology Canada: Rick Whittaker, Vice-President, Investments and Chief Technology Officer; Sailesh Thaker, Vice-President, Industry and Stakeholder Relations. Canadian Wind Energy Association: Tom Levy, Manager, Technical and Utility Affairs. Suncor Energy Inc.: Bradley Wamboldt, General Manager, Supply Chain Management - Operations, Business Services. As an individual: Murray R. Gray, Director and Professor, University of Alberta, Centre for Oil Sands Innovation at the University of Alberta.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on October 4, 2012, the Committee resumed its study of innovation in the energy sector.

Rick Whittaker, Tom Levy, Bradley Wamboldt and Murray R. Gray made statements and answered questions.

At 4:49 p.m., Peter Julian took the Chair.

At 4:52 p.m., Leon Benoit took the Chair.

At 5:17 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 5:20 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.

It was agreed, — That the Committee invite the Commissioner of the Environment and Sustainable Development to appear Tuesday, February 5, 2013, at 3:30 p.m., to discuss his 2012 fall report, and that the witnesses previously confirmed as part of the study on innovation in the energy sector appear at 4:30 p.m.

At 5:22 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
