The Standing Committee on Public Accounts met at 3:32 p.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, David Christopherson, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Joyce Bateman, Lysane Blanchette-Lamothe, Hon. Gerry Byrne, Guy Caron, David Christopherson, Earl Dreeshen, Matthew Dubé, Bryan Hayes, Daryl Kramp, Andrew Saxton, Bev Shipley and Brad Trost.

 

Acting Members present: Pat Martin for Lysane Blanchette-Lamothe.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Alex Smith, Analyst; Sébastien T. Defoy, Analyst. Treasury Board Secretariat: Suzie Gignac, Executive Director; Annie Boyer, Senior Analyst.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee commenced its study of the correspondence received from the Comptroller General of Canada on June 17, 2011, requesting an endorsement of waivers to the publication of details related to ex gratia payments, payments of claims against the Crown and court awards in the 2011 Public Accounts of Canada.
 

It was moved, — That in relation to the correspondence received June 17, 2011, from the Comptroller General of Canada, the Committee concur in the request for endorsement of waivers to the publication of details related to ex gratia payments, payments of claims against the Crown and court awards in the 2011 Public Accounts of Canada.

 

Suzie Gignac answered questions.

 

Gerry Byrne moved, — That the motion be amended by adding after the words “Public Accounts of Canada” the following: “, provided that the Committee retain its right to order the production of the information whose publication is to be withheld, which would be treated as confidential by the Committee”.

Debate arose thereon.

 

Andrew Saxton moved, — That the Committee proceed to sit in camera.

 

The question was put on the motion and it was agreed to, by a show of hands: YEAS: 7; NAYS: 1.

 

At 4:05 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:05 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 

The Committee resumed consideration of the correspondence received from the Comptroller General of Canada on June 17, 2011, requesting an endorsement of waivers to the publication of details related to ex gratia payments, payments of claims against the Crown and court awards in the 2011 Public Accounts of Canada.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee do now adjourn.

 

At 4:53 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
