Meeting No. 71

Monday, March 18, 2013

The Standing Committee on National Defence met in camera at 3:34 p.m. this day, in Room 362, East Block, the Chair, James Bezan, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Chris Alexander, James Bezan, Tarik Brahmi, Corneliu Chisu, Cheryl Gallant, Jack Harris, Jean-François Larose, Christine Moore, Rick Norlock, Ted Opitz and Mark Strahl.

Acting Members present: Hon. Gerry Byrne for Hon. John McKay.

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Wolfgang Koerner, Analyst ; Melissa Radford, Analyst.

Witnesses: Department of National Defence: Jill Sinclair, Assistant Deputy Minister, Policy.

Participants present: Department of National Defence: Riley D. Hennessey, Policy Analyst, Directorate of Parliamentary Affairs.

The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Thursday, September 29, 2011, the Committee commenced its study of the Defence of North America.

Jill Sinclair made a statement and answered questions.

At 5:10 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 5:12 p.m., the sitting resumed.

It was agreed, — That, notwithstanding the motions adopted by the Committee on Monday, February 4, 2013, and Monday, February 11, 2013, and further to the budget adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, December 11, 2012, the Committee travel to Washington D.C. and Colorado Springs, Colorado, from Tuesday, May 7 to Friday, May 10, 2013, in relation to the study of the Defence of North America, and that the necessary staff do accompany the Committee.

It was agreed, — That, in relation to the committee’s study of the Defence of North America, the Committee be authorized to purchase gifts to be presented during travel to Washington D.C. and Colorado Springs, Colorado, in the spring of 2013.

At 5:19 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
