The Standing Committee on Justice and Human Rights met at 3:31 p.m. this day, in Room 306, La Promenade Building, the Chair, Mike Wallace, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Dan Albas, Scott Armstrong, Françoise Boivin, Robert Goguen, Pierre Jacob, Hoang Mai, Wayne Marston, Kyle Seeback, Mike Wallace and David Wilks.

 

Acting Members present: Blaine Calkins for Brent Rathgeber, Sean Casey for Hon. Irwin Cotler and Hélène LeBlanc for Françoise Boivin.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Cynthia Kirkby, Analyst; Dominique Valiquet, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Department of Justice: William F. Pentney, Deputy Minister of Justice and Deputy Attorney General of Canada; Donald K. Piragoff, Senior Assistant Deputy Minister, Policy Sector; Daniel Schnob, Chief Financial Officer. Parm Gill, M.P., Brampton—Springdale.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Monday, March 4, 2013, the Committee commenced its study of expenditure plans for the Department of Justice in 2012-13.
 

William F. Pentney made a statement and, with Donald K. Piragoff, answered questions.

 

At 3:53 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 3:54 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 
Pursuant to the Order of Reference of Wednesday, June 20, 2012, the Committee commenced consideration of Bill C-394, An Act to amend the Criminal Code and the National Defence Act (criminal organization recruitment).
 

Parm Gill made a statement and answered questions.

 

At 5:05 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
