The Standing Committee on Human Resources, Skills and Social Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities met at 11:04 a.m. this day, in Room C-120, 1 Wellington Street, the Chair, Ed Komarnicki, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Marjolaine Boutin-Sweet, Brad Butt, Chris Charlton, Ryan Cleary, Rodger Cuzner, Joe Daniel, Ed Komarnicki, François Lapointe, Kellie Leitch, Colin Mayes, Phil McColeman and Devinder Shory.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: André Léonard, Analyst; Sandra Gruescu, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Department of Human Resources and Skills Development: Yves Gingras, Senior Director, Economic Policy Directorate, Labour Market Analysis; Dominique La Salle, Director General, Seniors and Pensions Policy Secretariat; Catherine Demers, Director, Employment Programs and Partnerships.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Thursday, April 18, 2013, the Committee commenced its study of opportunities for older persons in the workforce.
 

Yves Gingras made a statement and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

 

At 12:37 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:39 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

On motion of Chris Charlton, it was agreed, — That the Standing Committee on Human Resources, Skills and Social Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities undertake a study on opportunities for Aboriginal persons in the workforce, and the supports available to them through the federal government including the Aboriginal Skills, Employment and Training Strategy (ASETS) which is up for renewal in 2015; and that this study begin after the summer adjournment.

 

At 12:40 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
