The Standing Committee on Human Resources, Skills and Social Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities met at 3:35 p.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, Ed Komarnicki, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Marjolaine Boutin-Sweet, Brad Butt, Chris Charlton, Ryan Cleary, Rodger Cuzner, Joe Daniel, Ed Komarnicki, François Lapointe, Kellie Leitch, Colin Mayes and Devinder Shory.

 

Acting Members present: Jay Aspin for Phil McColeman.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Sandra Gruescu, Analyst; André Léonard, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Canadian Nurses Association: Rachel Bard, Chief Executive Officer; Lisa Little, Consultant, Health Human Resources. Canadian Institute for Health Information: Jean-Marie Berthelot, Vice-President, Programs and Executive Director, Quebec Office; Carole Brulé, Manager, Health Human Resources, Pharmaceuticals and Health Workforce Information Services. As an individual: Arthur Sweetman, Professor, Department of Economics, McMaster University.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Wednesday, February 15, 2012, the Committee resumed its studies of “Fixing the Skills Gap: Addressing Existing Labour Shortages in High Demand Occupations” and “Understanding Labour Shortages: Addressing Barriers to Filling Low-Skilled Jobs”.
 
 

Arthur Sweetman, Jean-Marie Berthelot and Rachel Bard made statements and, with Lisa Little, answered questions.

 

At 3:44 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 3:45 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

Questioning of the witnesses resumed.

 

At 4:27 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:42 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

Questioning of the witnesses resumed.

 

At 5:16 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 5:19 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That the proposed operational budget in the amount of $15,200.00 for the Committee's studies of “Fixing the Skills Gap: Addressing Existing Labour Shortages in High Demand Occupations” and “Understanding Labour Shortages: Addressing Barriers to Filling Low-Skilled Jobs”.

 

At 5:22 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
