The Standing Committee on Health met at 3:32 p.m. this day, in Room 306, La Promenade Building, the Chair, Joy Smith, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Kelly Block, Colin Carrie, Hon. Hedy Fry, Parm Gill, Dany Morin, Anne Minh-Thu Quach, Djaouida Sellah, Joy Smith, Mark Strahl and John Williamson.

 

Acting Members present: Ryan Leef for Kelly Block and Christine Moore for Libby Davies.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Sonya Norris, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada: Manuel Arango, Director, Health Policy; Mike Sharma, Expert Representative. Canadian Partnership Against Cancer: Jessica Hill, Chief Executive Officer; Leanne Kitchen-Clarke, Vice-President, Public Affairs. Canadian Lung Association: Christopher Wilson, Director, Public Affairs and Advocacy, National Office; Rosario Holmes, Educator, Asthma and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, Ontario Lung Association. Canadian Diabetes Association: Aileen Leo, Associate Director, Public Policy, Government Relations and Public Affairs.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

On motion of Colin Carrie, it was agreed, — That, in relation to the study of chronic diseases related to aging, the proposed budget in the amount of $28,700 be adopted.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Monday, October 3, 2011, the Committee resumed its study of chronic diseases related to aging.
 

Aileen Leo, Jessica Hill, Mike Sharma, Rosario Holmes and Christopher Wilson made statements and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

 

At 4:51 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
