The Standing Committee on Health met at 8:50 a.m. this day, in Room 306, La Promenade Building, the Chair, Joy Smith, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Kelly Block, Libby Davies, Parm Gill, Wladyslaw Lizon, Dany Morin, Anne Minh-Thu Quach, Djaouida Sellah and Joy Smith.

 

Acting Members present: Ted Hsu for Hon. Hedy Fry, Kellie Leitch for Mark Strahl and Rick Norlock for Colin Carrie.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Raphaelle Deraspe, Analyst; Sonya Norris, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Canadian Association for Pharmacy Distribution Management: David Johnston, President and Chief Executive Officer; Allan Reynolds, Vice-President, Industry and Member Relations. Canadian Generic Pharmaceutical Association: Jim Keon, President; Jeremy Desai, President and Chief Operating Officer, Apotex Inc.; Michel Robidoux, President, Sandoz Canada. Canada's Research-Based Pharmaceutical Companies (Rx & D): Russell Williams, President; Mark Ferdinand, Senior Director, Health and Economic Policy. HealthPRO Procurement Services Inc.: Kathleen Boyle, Vice-President, Services; Michael Blanchard, Clinical Director, Pharmacy Services.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, March 13, 2012, the Committee commenced its study of the role of government and industry in determining drug supply in Canada.
 

On motion of Kelly Block, it was agreed, — That in relation to the study of the role of government and industry in determining drug supply in Canada, the proposed budget in the amount of $18,450 be adopted.

 

Jim Keon, Russell Williams, David Johnston and Kathleen Boyle made statements and, with Michel Robidoux, Mark Ferdinand, Michael Blanchard and Jeremy Desai, answered questions.

 

At 10:46 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
