The Standing Committee on Finance met in a televised session at 3:31 p.m. this day, in Room C-110, 1 Wellington Street, the Chair, James Rajotte, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Mark Adler, Guy Caron, Shelly Glover, Hoang Mai, Wayne Marston, Cathy McLeod, James Rajotte and Dave Van Kesteren.

 

Acting Members present: Alexandre Boulerice for Peggy Nash, Rodger Cuzner for Hon. Scott Brison and Rick Dykstra for Randy Hoback.

 

Associate Members present: Pat Martin.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Daniel Benatuil, Analyst; Mark Mahabir, Analyst; Sebastian Spano, Analyst. House of Commons: Michelle Tittley, Procedural Clerk.

 

Witnesses: House of Commons: Russ Hiebert, South Surrey—White Rock—Cloverdale. Building and Construction Trades Department, AFL-CIO: Robert Blakely, Chief Operating Officer, Canadian Office. Canadian Bar Association: Michael Mazzuca, Chair, National Pensions and Benefits Law Section. Canadian Labour Congress: Kenneth V. Georgetti, President. Canadian Taxpayers Federation: Gregory Thomas, Federal and Ontario Director. San Francisco State University: John Logan, Professor, Labour and Employment Relations. Canadian Federation of Independent Business: Daniel Kelly, President and Chief Executive Officer.

 
Pursuant to the Order of Reference of Wednesday, March 14, 2012, the Committee commenced consideration of Bill C-377, An Act to amend the Income Tax Act (requirements for labour organizations).
 

Russ Hiebert made a statement and answered questions.

 

At 4:04 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:06 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

Robert Blakely, Michael Mazzuca, Kenneth V. Georgetti, Gregory Thomas, John Logan, by videoconference from Berkeley, California, and Daniel Kelly, by videoconference from Vancouver, British Columbia, made statements and answered questions.

 

At 5:40 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
