The Standing Committee on Finance met in camera at 12:12 p.m. this day, in Room 268, La Promenade Building, the Chair, James Rajotte, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Hon. Scott Brison, Alain Giguère, Shelly Glover, Randy Hoback, Brian Jean, Hoang Mai, Wayne Marston, Cathy McLeod, Peggy Nash, James Rajotte and Dave Van Kesteren.

 

Acting Members present: Joe Daniel for Mark Adler.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Brett Stuckey, Analyst; Mark Mahabir, Analyst. House of Commons: Marlene Sandoval, Committee Clerk.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

At 12:18 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:19 p.m., the Committee proceeded to sit in public.

 

Shelly Glover moved, — That the Standing Committee on Finance, consistent with the Private Members’ Motion M-559 (40th Parliament, Third session) sponsored by the Member of Parliament for Kitchener-Waterloo and unanimously adopted by the House of Commons on March 2, 2011, undertake a compressive study of no less than twelve (12) consecutive or non-consecutive meetings on the current tax incentives for charitable donations with a view to encouraging increased giving, including but not limited to (i) changes to the charitable tax credit amount, (ii) reviewing the possible extension of the capital gains exemption to private company shares and real estate when donated to a charitable organization, (iii) considering the feasibility and cost of implementing these and other measures; and that the Committee report its findings to the House.

 

After debate, the question was put on the motion and it was agreed to.

 

At 12:39 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:40 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 

At 12:56 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
