The Standing Committee on Finance met in a televised session at 8:45 a.m. this day, in Room C-110, 1 Wellington Street, the Chair, James Rajotte, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Mark Adler, Hon. Scott Brison, Guy Caron, Raymond Côté, Shelly Glover, Randy Hoback, Brian Jean, Cathy McLeod, Peggy Nash, James Rajotte and Murray Rankin.

Acting Members present: Phil McColeman for Dave Van Kesteren.

In attendance: Library of Parliament: James Gauthier, Analyst ; Mark Mahabir, Analyst.

Witnesses: As individuals: Stephen Richardson, Executive Fellow, University of Calgary; Michael R. Veall, Professor, Department of Economics, McMaster University. Assembly of First Nations: Peter Dinsdale, Chief Executive Officer. Broadbent Institute: Hon. Ed Broadbent, Chair and Founder. Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives: Armine Yalnizyan, Senior Economist. Canadian Council on Social Development: Peggy Taillon, President and Chief Executive Officer. Institut du Nouveau Monde: Michel Venne, Director General; Nicolas Zorn, Project Officer. As an individual: Nicole Fortin, Professor, Vancouver School of Economics, University of British Columbia, Senior Fellow, Canadian Institute for Advanced Research.

Pursuant to the Order of Reference of Wednesday, June 13, 2012, the Committee resumed its study of Income Inequality in Canada.

Stephen Richardson, Michael R. Veall, Peter Dinsdale, Ed Broadbent, Armine Yalnizyan, Peggy Taillon, Michel Venne and Nicole Fortin, by videoconference from Vancouver, British Columbia, made statements and, with Nicolas Zorn, answered questions.

At 10:51 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
