The Standing Committee on the Status of Women met at 3:32 p.m. this day, in Room 306, La Promenade Building, the Vice-Chair, Tilly O'Neill Gordon, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Stella Ambler, Joyce Bateman, Charmaine Borg, Mylène Freeman, Sana Hassainia, Ed Holder, Roxanne James, Tilly O'Neill Gordon, Hon. Judy Sgro, Susan Truppe and Wai Young.

 

Acting Members present: Gordon Brown for Stella Ambler.

 

Associate Members present: Chungsen Leung.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Havi Echenberg, Analyst; Laura Munn-Rivard, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Canadian Network for the Prevention of Elder Abuse : Charmaine Spencer, Chair. International Network for the Prevention of Elder Abuse: Gloria Gutman, President. National Initiative for the Care of the Elderly: Lynn McDonald, Scientific Director. Canadian Nurses Association: Barb Mildon, President-elect; Josette Roussel, Nurse Advisor.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Thursday, September 29, 2011, the Committee resumed its study of abuse of older women.
 

Charmaine Spencer, Gloria Gutman and Lynn McDonald made statements and answered questions.

 

At 4:35 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:39 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

Barb Mildon made a statement and, with Josette Roussel, answered questions.

 

At 5:30 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
