The Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Development met at 8:48 a.m. this day, in Room 306, La Promenade Building, the Chair, Dean Allison, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Dean Allison, Lois Brown, Bob Dechert, Peter Goldring, Nina Grewal, Hélène Laverdière, Hon. Dominic LeBlanc, Marc-André Morin, Gary Ralph Schellenberger and Jinny Jogindera Sims.

 

Acting Members present: Alexandrine Latendresse for Paulina Ayala and Robert Sopuck for Dave Van Kesteren.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Allison Goody, Analyst; James Lee, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development: Jillian Stirk, Assistant Deputy Minister, Europe, Eurasia and Africa; Leigh Sarty, Director, Institutions, Policy and Operations Division, Europe and Eurasia Bureau. Canadian Friends of Ukraine: Lisa Shymko, Executive Director, Chair, Canada-Ukraine Parliamentary Centre. Ukrainian Canadian Congress: Taras Zalusky, Executive Director, National Office. As an individual: Taras Kuzio, Senior Visiting Fellow, Center for Transatlantic Relations, Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies, Johns Hopkins University.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on October 4, 2011, the Committee proceeded to a briefing on the situation in Ukraine.
 

Jillian Stirk made a statement and answered questions.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That in relation to the briefing on the Situation in Ukraine, the proposed budget in the amount of $ 3,700, be adopted.

 

At 9:39 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 9:48 a.m., the sitting resumed.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed a briefing on the situation in Ukraine.
 

Lisa Shymko, Taras Zalusky and Taras Kuzio made statements and answered questions.

 

At 10:49 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
