The Standing Committee on International Trade met at 11:40 a.m. this day, in Room 306, La Promenade Building, the Chair, the Hon. Rob Merrifield, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Ron Cannan, Robert Chisholm, Raymond Côté, Hon. Wayne Easter, Russ Hiebert, Ed Holder, Gerald Keddy, Hon. Rob Merrifield, Ève Péclet, Mathieu Ravignat, Bev Shipley and Devinder Shory.

 

Acting Members present: Peter Goldring for Ron Cannan and Nina Grewal for Russ Hiebert.

 

Other Member present: Nina Grewal.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Alexandre Gauthier, Analyst.

 

Appearing: Hon. Ed Fast, Minister of International Trade.

 

Witnesses: Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade: Steve Verheul, Chief Trade Negotiator, Canada-European Union; Ana Renart, Deputy Chief Trade Negotiator, Canada-European Union.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, September 27, 2011, the Committee commenced its study of the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) with the European Union.
 

The Minister made a statement and answered questions.

 

At 12:14 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:15 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

Steve Verheul answered questions.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

On motion of Devinder Shory, it was agreed, — That in relation to the study of the Trade Commissioner Service, the proposed budget in the amount of $ 7,700.00, be adopted.

 

On motion of Gerald Keddy, it was agreed, — That in relation to the study of the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) with the European Union, the proposed budget in the amount of $ 25,800.00, be adopted.

 

On motion of Ed Holder, it was agreed, — That in relation to the study of trade relations with Brazil, the proposed budget in the amount of $ 7,700.00, be adopted.

 

At 1:02 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
