The Standing Committee on Canadian Heritage met at 12:01 p.m. this day, in Room 7-52, 131 Queen Street, the Chair, the Hon. Rob Moore, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Scott Armstrong, Gordon Brown, Paul Calandra, Andrew Cash, Parm Gill, Jim Hillyer, Hon. Rob Moore, Pierre Nantel, Scott Simms and Terence Young.

 

Acting Members present: Laurin Liu for Rathika Sitsabaiesan and Irene Mathyssen for Matthew Dubé.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Michael Dewing, Analyst; Marion Ménard, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: City of Ottawa: Cathy Bowles, Chief of Protocol. Government of Manitoba: Dwight MacAulay, Chief of Protocol, Executive Council. Ministry of Intergovernmental Affairs of Ontario: Mary Shenstone, Assistant Deputy Minister of International Relations and Chief of Protocol, Office of International Relations and Protocol.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, September 27, 2011, the Committe resumed its review of national protocol procedures.
 

Cathy Bowles, Dwight MacAulay and Mary Shenstone made statements and answered questions.

 

At 12:55 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:57 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 

It was agreed, — That in relation to the study of national protocol procedures, the proposed budget in the amount of $ 13,850, be adopted.

 

It was agreed, — That on Tuesday, May 15, 2012, the Committee hear from the Department of National Defence and the Royal Canadian Legion from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. in relation to its study of national protocol procedures and that from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. the Committee consider the draft report in relation to its study of Canada's 150th anniversary in 2017.

 

At 1:01 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
