Thursday, October 4, 2012

The Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food met in camera at 8:49 a.m. this day, in Room 8-53, 131 Queen Street, the Chair, Merv Tweed, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Malcolm Allen, Randy Hoback, Pierre Lemieux, LaVar Payne, Francine Raynault, Blake Richards, Merv Tweed, Frank Valeriote and Bob Zimmer.

Acting Members present: Hélène LeBlanc for Alex Atamanenko, Ben Lobb for Brian Storseth, Dany Morin for Alex Atamanenko and François Pilon for Ruth Ellen Brosseau.

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Khamla Heminthavong, Analyst ; Frédéric Forge, Analyst.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motions adopted by the Committee on Monday, February 13, 2012, the Committee resumed its study of the food supply chain (overview of the subject).

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Wednesday, March 28, 2012, the Committee resumed its study of the animal products supply chain (red meat).

The Committee commenced consideration of a draft report.

At 10:02 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 10:09 a.m., the sitting resumed.

The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.

It was agreed, — That in relation to the study of the agricultural and agri-food products supply chain (grains and oilseeds), the proposed budget in the amount of $22,200.00, be adopted.

It was agreed, — That, notwithstanding the motions adopted on Tuesday, October 2, 2012, the meetings of Tuesday, October 16 and Thursday, October 18, 2012, be devoted to the consideration of the draft report on the food supply chain (overview) and the study of the animal products supply chain (red meat); and that the Committee undertake a study of the agricultural and agri-food products supply chain (grains and oilseeds), starting on Tuesday, October 23, 2012.

At 10:41 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
