The Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food met in camera at 3:33 p.m. this day, in Room 268, La Promenade Building, the Chair, Larry Miller, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Alex Atamanenko, Ruth Ellen Brosseau, Pierre Lemieux, Ben Lobb, Larry Miller, Francine Raynault, Brian Storseth, Frank Valeriote and Bob Zimmer.

 

Acting Members present: Chris Alexander for Randy Hoback, Bev Shipley for LaVar Payne, Glenn Thibeault for Malcolm Allen and Chris Warkentin for Pierre Lemieux.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Frédéric Forge, Analyst; Khamla Heminthavong, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Canadian Pork Council: Rick Bergmann, First Vice-President; Jean-Guy Vincent, Chair of the Board of Directors. Canadian Trucking Alliance: Stephen Laskowski, Senior Vice-President; Deanna Pagnan, Director, Livestock Transporters' Division. Canadian Cattlemen's Association: Dennis Laycraft, Executive Vice-President; John Masswohl, Director, Government and International Relations.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That, notwithstanding the motion adopted on Wednesday, May 16, 2012, regarding the poultry products component, the Committee invite the beef, pork and sheep Value Chain Roundtables on Wednesday, June 6, 2012, in the context of the red meat component of its study of the animal products supply chain.

 

At 3:51 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 3:52 p.m., the sitting resumed in public.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Wednesday, March 28, 2012, the Committee resumed its study of the animal products supply chain (red meat).
 

Dennis Laycraft and John Masswohl by videoconference from Quebec, Quebec, Jean-Guy Vincent, Rick Bergmann, Stephen Laskowski and Deanna Pagnan made statements and answered questions.

 

At 5:20 p.m., by unanimous consent and pursuant to Standing Order 115(5), it was agreed that the Committee continue to sit.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

Frank Valeriote moved, — That, the Committee undertake a study of the losses in honey bee colonies; and that it hold one (1) meeting on this study on Monday, June 4, 2012, to hear from witnesses.

 

The question was put on the motion and it was agreed to, by a show of hands: YEAS: 7; NAYS: 0.

 

At 5:21 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
