The Standing Committee on Veterans Affairs met in a televised session at 3:33 p.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, Greg Kerr, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Eve Adams, Sean Casey, Réjean Genest, Richard M. Harris, Greg Kerr, Wladyslaw Lizon, Ben Lobb, Irene Mathyssen, Annick Papillon, Peter Stoffer and Brian Storseth.

 

Acting Members present: Mark Strahl for Rob Anders.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Jean-Rodrigue Paré, Analyst.

 

Appearing: Hon. Steven Blaney, P.C., M.P., Minister of Veterans Affairs.

 

Witnesses: Department of Veterans Affairs: James Gilbert, Assistant Deputy Minister, Policy, Communications and Commemoration. Veterans Review and Appeal Board: John D. Larlee, Chair; Karen Rowell, Director, Corporate Operations. Department of Veterans Affairs: Suzanne Tining, Deputy Minister.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 81(5), the Committee commenced consideration of the Supplementary Estimates (C) 2011-2012: Vote 5c under VETERANS AFFAIRS referred to the Committee on Tuesday, February 28, 2012.
 
Pursuant to Standing Order 81(4), the Committee commenced consideration of the Main Estimates 2012-2013: Votes 1, 5 and 10 under VETERANS AFFAIRS referred to the Committee on Tuesday, February 28, 2012.
 

By unanimous consent, the Chair called Votes 5c and 1 under VETERANS AFFAIRS.

 

The Minister made a statement and answered questions.

 

At 4:33 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:38 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

John D. Larlee made a statement and, with Suzanne Tining and James Gilbert, answered questions.

 

Irene Mathyssen gave notice of the following motion:

That, in the opinion of the committee, Rob Anders, MP for Calgary West, be removed from Veterans’ Affairs Committee.

 

At 5:19 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 5:21 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

The question: "Shall Vote 5c under VETERANS AFFAIRS carry?" was put and was agreed to, by a show of hands: YEAS: 7; NAYS: 4.
