The Standing Committee on Transport, Infrastructure and Communities met by videoconference at 3:36 p.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, Merv Tweed, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Dennis Bevington, Hon. Gerry Byrne, Cheryl Gallant, Roger Gaudet, Colin Mayes, Hon. John McCallum, Merv Tweed and Jeff Watson.

 

Acting Members present: Ruby Dhalla for Sukh Dhaliwal, Ed Fast for Brian Jean, Mario Laframboise for Michel Guimond and Chris Warkentin for Brad Trost.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: John Christopher, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Federation of Canadian Municipalities: Merrill Henderson, Board Member; Karen Leibovici, Second Vice-President.

 
Pursuant to the Order of Reference of Wednesday, December 8, 2010, the Committee resumed consideration of Bill C-33, An Act to amend the Railway Safety Act and to make consequential amendments to the Canada Transportation Act.
 

Karen Leibovici, by videoconference from Corner Brook, Newfoundland and Labrador, made a statement and Merrill Henderson, by videoconference from Corner Brook, Newfoundland and Labrador, answered questions.

 

At 4:51 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:54 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

John McCallum moved, — That the Committee hold a meeting on Thursday, March 24, 2011, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. to study the current situation with regard to airport limousine drivers at Pearson International Airport; that representatives of the drivers, the limousine companies and the Greater Toronto Airports Authority (GTAA) be asked to appear; that the Committee report its findings to the House; and that no motions, dilatory or otherwise, be entertained by the Chair at said meeting.

Debate arose thereon.

 

The Chair reserved his ruling on the admissibility of the proposed motion until the meeting of Tuesday, March 8, 2011.

 

At 5:29 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
