The Subcommittee on International Human Rights of the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Development met in camera at 12:40 p.m. this day, in Room 371, West Block, the Chair, Scott Reid, presiding.

 

Members of the Subcommittee present: Hon. Irwin Cotler, Jean Dorion, Wayne Marston, Scott Reid, Mario Silva and David Sweet.

 

Acting Members present: Lois Brown for David Sweet and Shelly Glover for Russ Hiebert.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Christine Kostiuk; Melissa Radford.

 

Witnesses: Nathalie Morin Support Committee: Johanne Durocher; Marie-Ève Adam; Christelle Bogosta. University of Montreal: Stéphane Beaulac, Faculty of Law.

 
The Subcommittee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Subcommittee business.
 

It was agreed, — That the Subcommittee on International Human Rights of the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Development invite Representatives of Democratic Opposition Parties and Civil Society leadership in Belarus on June 8, 2010, to discuss human rights issues within their home country and report the findings to the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs.

 

It was agreed, — That the study on human rights in Venezuela continue in the fall, after the summer recess.

 

At 1:04 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 1:11 p.m., the sitting resumed in a video-recorded session.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Subcommittee on Tuesday, April 20, 2010 the Subcommittee commenced its study of the Situation of Nathalie Morin.
 

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

 

At 2:06 p.m., the Subcommittee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
