The Standing Committee on Government Operations and Estimates met in a televised session at 8:47 a.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, the Chair, the Hon. John McKay, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Diane Bourgeois, Paul Calandra, Blaine Calkins, Siobhan Coady, Jacques Gourde, Pat Martin, Hon. John McKay, Hon. Geoff Regan and Chris Warkentin.

 

Acting Members present: Hon. Larry Bagnell for Hon. John McKay, Colin Carrie for Ed Holder and Meili Faille for Robert Vincent.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Édison Roy-César, Analyst; Maxime-Olivier Thibodeau, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Public Service Commission of Canada: Maria Barrados, President; Donald Lemaire, Senior Vice-President, Policy Branch; Elizabeth Murphy-Walsh, Vice-President, Audit, Evaluation and Studies.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

On motion of Siobhan Coady, it was agreed on division, — That the Committee immediately undertake a study on all expenditures surrounding the G8 and G20 summits held this year in Huntsville and Toronto, and that it report its recommendations and conclusions to the House.

 

Siobhan Coady moved, — That the Committee requests the Government provides it with the details of all costs associated with the G8 and G20 Summits, from all departments and agencies, including for goods, services and overtime salaries, providing for each contract (i) the name of the contractor, (ii) a description of the goods or services provided, (iii) the value of the contract, (iv) how the contract was awarded, (v) whether the cost was associated with the G8, G20 or both, within 10 business days.

 

The question was put on the motion and the results of the vote was announced: YEAS: 5; NAYS: 5.

Whereupon, the Chair voted in the affirmative.

Accordingly, the motion was agreed to.

 

At 9:08 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 9:10 a.m., the sitting resumed.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(3)(c)(vi) the Committee commenced consideration of the Public Service Commission's 2009-2010 Annual Report and various reports and studies produced in 2010, referred to the Committee on Tuesday, October 5, 2010.
 

Maria Barrados made a statement and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

 

At 10:47 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
