The Standing Committee on National Defence met in camera at 11:04 a.m. this day, in Room 362, East Block, the Chair, Hon. Maxime Bernier, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Claude Bachand, Hon. Maxime Bernier, Ray Boughen, Peter Braid, Cheryl Gallant, Laurie Hawn, Hon. Keith Martin, Pascal-Pierre Paillé and Hon. Bryon Wilfert.

 

Acting Members present: Niki Ashton for Jack Harris, Bernard Bigras for Claude Bachand and Bev Shipley for LaVar Payne.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Wolfgang Koerner, Analyst.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, March 16, 2010, the Committee commenced its study of recruitment and retention in the Canadian Forces.
 

The Committee commenced consideration of a draft report.

 

It was agreed, — That the draft report, as amended, be adopted.

 

It was agreed, — That the Chair present the report to the House.

 

It was agreed, — That, pursuant to Standing Order 109, the Committee request that the Government table a comprehensive response to the report.

 

It was agreed, — That the Chair, Clerk and analyst be authorized to make such grammatical and editorial changes as may be necessary without changing the substance of the report.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee append to its report any dissenting and/or supplementary opinions provided that they are no more than six pages in length, in the same style and format as the report (Arial, 12 point, 1.5 line spacing); and that it be submitted electronically in both official languages to the Clerk of the Committee, no later than Tuesday, March 30, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. (Eastern daylight time).

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That the Committee travel to Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, and Iqualuit, Nunavut, from April 18 to 21, 2010 in relation to its study on Arctic sovereignty.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee meet on Thursday, April 15, 2010 in order to consider a draft report in relation to its study on Arctic sovereignty.

 

At 11:25 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
