The Standing Committee on Official Languages met at 9:04 a.m. this day, in the Town Hall Room, Best Western Gold Rush Inn, Whitehorse, Yukon, the Chair, Steven Blaney, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Hon. Mauril Bélanger, Steven Blaney, Royal Galipeau, Monique Guay, Guy Lauzon, Brian Murphy and Lise Zarac.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Lucie Lecomte, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Government of Yukon: Francine Blais, Director, French Language Services Directorate; Janet Moodie, Deputy Minister and Cabinet Secretary, Executive Council Office; Pamela Hine, Deputy Minister, Department of Education; Harvey Brooks, Deputy Minister, Department of Economic Development; Laurel Parry, Manager, Arts, Cultural Services, Department of Tourism and Culture; Patricia Living, Director, Communications and Social Marketing, Department of Health and Social Services. Association franco-yukonnaise: Angélique Bernard, President; Régis St-Pierre, Co-Executive Director; Roch Nadon, Director, Cultural and Youth.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(3)(f), and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, November 30, 2010, the Committee commenced consideration of the study of the development of linguistic duality in Northern Canada.
 

Francine Blais made a statement and, with Pamela Hine, Patricia Living, Harvey Brooks and Janet Moodie, answered questions.

 

At 10:01 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 10:18 a.m., the sitting resumed.

 

Angélique Bernard and Roch Nadon made statements and, with Régis St-Pierre, answered questions.

 

At 11:43 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
