The Standing Committee on Official Languages met in a televised session at 8:45 a.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, Steven Blaney, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Hon. Mauril Bélanger, Steven Blaney, Bernard Généreux, Yvon Godin, Monique Guay, Guy Lauzon, Brian Murphy, Tilly O'Neill-Gordon and Greg Rickford.

Acting Members present: Thierry St-Cyr for Richard Nadeau and Terence Young for Royal Galipeau.

Associate Members present: Russ Hiebert.

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Lucie Lecomte, Analyst ; Nicolas Auclair, Analyst.

Witnesses: Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada: Simon Coakeley, Executive Director, Office of the Executive Director; Sylvia Cox-Duquette, Senior General Counsel; Serge Gascon, Director General, Corporate Planning and Services Branch; Diane Lacelle, Director General, Human Resources and Professional Development Branch.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(3)(f) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, November 23, 2010, the Committee commenced consideration of the study of the offer of bilingual services at the Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada.

Simon Coakeley made a statement and, with Diane Lacelle, Sylvia Cox-Duquette and Serge Gascon, answered questions.

At 9:49 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 9:51 a.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.

At 9:59 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
