The Standing Committee on Official Languages met in a televised session at 8:53 a.m. this day, in Room C-110, 1 Wellington Street, the Chair, Steven Blaney, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Hon. Mauril Bélanger, Steven Blaney, Royal Galipeau, Bernard Généreux, Yvon Godin, Monique Guay, Guy Lauzon, Richard Nadeau, Tilly O'Neill-Gordon, Greg Rickford and Lise Zarac.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Lucie Lecomte, Analyst; Nicolas Auclair, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Department of National Defence: RAdm Andrew Smith, Chief of Military Personnel, Champion of Official Languages; Col Louis Meloche, Commander, Canadian Forces Base Borden.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(3)(f) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, November 23, 2010, the Committee commenced consideration of the study of the National Defence Official Languages Program Transformation Model.
 

RAdm Andrew Smith and Col Louis Meloche made statements and answered questions.

 

At 10:03 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 10:09 a.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That the Committee ask the Department of Public Safety to send the revised copy of its Action Plan for Official Languages as soon as it is available.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee request from the Department of National Defence written justification for the decision to change the mission of the General Jean V. Allard Memorial Library at Saint-Jean Garrison, in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, and invite those responsible for the decision to appear on December 14, 2010.

 

At 10:41 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
