The Standing Committee on Health met by videoconference at 11:06 a.m. this day, in Room 8-53, 131 Queen St., the Chair, Joy Smith, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Colin Carrie, Patricia Davidson, Ruby Dhalla, Hon. Ujjal Dosanjh, Nicolas Dufour, Kirsty Duncan, Luc Malo, Cathy McLeod, Joy Smith and Tim Uppal.

 

Acting Members present: Carol Hughes for Megan Anissa Leslie and Bev Shipley for Patrick Brown.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Odette Madore, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Canadian Food Inspection Agency: Carole Swan, President; Paul Mayers, Associate Vice-President, Programs. Department of Health: Glenda Yeates, Deputy Minister; Jeff Farber, Director, Bureau of Microbial Hazards, Health Products and Food Branch. Public Health Agency of Canada: David Butler-Jones, Chief Public Health Officer; Mark Raizenne, Director General, Centre for Food-borne, Environmental and Zoonotic Infectious Diseases (CFEZID); Frank Plummer, Scientific Director General, National Microbiology Laboratory.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, March 30, 2010, the Committee resumed its study of the implementation of the recommendations of the Weatherill Report on the 2008 listeriosis outbreak.
 

Carole Swan, Glenda Yeates and David Butler-Jones made statements and, with Paul Mayers, Jeff Farber, Mark Raizenne and Frank Plummer by videoconference from Washington, D.C., answered questions.

 

At 12:54 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
