The Standing Committee on Health met at 9:03 a.m. this day, in Room 853, 131 Queen St., the Chair, Joy Smith, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Patrick Brown, Patricia Davidson, Nicolas Dufour, Kirsty Duncan, Megan Anissa Leslie, Luc Malo, Cathy McLeod, Joyce Murray, Joy Smith and Tim Uppal.

 

Acting Members present: Carol Hughes for Megan Anissa Leslie and David Sweet for Colin Carrie.

 

Other Members present: Carole Lavallée.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Marie Chia, Analyst; Karin Phillips, Analyst.

 

At 9:05 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 9:05 a.m., the Committee resume sitting in public.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

Carolyn Bennett moved, — That the Committee request that the Minister of Health immediately re-introduce comprehensive product safety legislation and that this be reported back to the House.

Debate arose thereon.

 

After debate, the question was put on the motion and it was agreed to.

 

Carolyn Bennett moved, — That the Committee ask the Minister of Health, the Minister of Industry and the Minister of Public Safety to appear before June 15, 2010 on the cancellation of the HIV Vaccine Manufacturing Facility under the Canadian HIV Vaccine Initiative in order to ensure that the Committee sends back to the House a comprehensive report on this study.

Debate arose thereon.

 

By unanimous consent, the motion was withdrawn.

 

Carolyn Bennett moved, — That the Committee invite the Minister of Health to appear on Supplementary Estimates (A) between June 8, 2010 and June 17, 2010.

After debate, the question was put on the motion and it was agreed to.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Thursday, March 11, 2010, the Committee resumed its study on Health Human Resources.
 

The Committee resumed consideration of a draft report.
