The Standing Committee on the Status of Women met at 3:30 p.m. this day, in Room 209, West Block, the Chair, the Hon. Hedy Fry, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Sylvie Boucher, Lois Brown, Paul Calandra, Nicole Demers, Luc Desnoyers, Hon. Hedy Fry, Irene Mathyssen, Cathy McLeod, Michelle Simson and Alice Wong.

 

Acting Members present: Kirsty Duncan for Hon. Anita Neville and David Tilson for Sylvie Boucher.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Julie Cool, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Status of Women Canada: Havelin Anand, Director General, Women's Program and Regional Operations Directorate; Suzanne Clément, Coordinator, Head of Agency, Office of the Coordinator. As an individual: Kathleen Lahey, Professor, Faculty of Law, Queen's University. Status of Women Canada: Cindy Paquette, Director, Corporate Services Directorate. Canadian Auto Workers Union: Teresa Weymouth, National Coordinator, Education Program.

 
Pursuant to Standing Orders 110 and 111, the Committee commenced consideration of the certificate of nomination of Suzanne Clément to the Position of Coordinator referred to the Committee on Thursday, March 4, 2010.
 

Suzanne Clément made a statement and answered questions.

 

At 4:43 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:44 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Monday, March 8, 2010, the Committee resumed its study of increasing the participation of women in non-traditional occupations.
 

Teresa Weymouth and Kathleen Lahey made statements and answered questions.

 

At 5:37 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
