The Standing Committee on the Status of Women met in a televised session at 8:46 a.m. this day, in Room C-110, 1 Wellington Street, the Chair, the Hon. Hedy Fry, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Sylvie Boucher, Lois Brown, Dona Cadman, Luc Desnoyers, Hon. Hedy Fry, Nina Grewal, Cathy McLeod, Hon. Anita Neville and Michelle Simson.

 

Acting Members present: Niki Ashton for Irene Mathyssen and Monique Guay for Nicole Demers.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Laura Munn-Rivard, Analyst; Havi Echenberg, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: As individuals: Kathleen A. Lahey, Professor, Faculty of Law, Queen's University; Martha MacDonald, Professor and Chair, Economics Department, Saint Mary's University; Sheila Regehr; Beverley Smith, Editor, Recent Research on Caregiving. Canadian Women's Foundation: Mary Mowbray, Co-Chair of the Board of Directors.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, October 5, 2010, the Committee resumed its study of the cancellation of the mandatory long form census and its impact on women's equality in Canada.
 

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

 

At 10:30 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 10:30 a.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That the Committee invite the Minister for Status of Women and officials from Status of Women Canada to appear before the Committee, on Thursday, November 25, 2010, or prior to the date required to report back to the House, in order to discuss the Supplementary Estimates (B), 2010-2011.

 

At 10:42 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
