The Standing Committee on the Status of Women met in camera at 3:29 p.m. this day, in Room 209, West Block, the Chair, the Hon. Hedy Fry, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Sylvie Boucher, Lois Brown, Paul Calandra, Nicole Demers, Luc Desnoyers, Hon. Hedy Fry, Irene Mathyssen, Cathy McLeod, Hon. Anita Neville, Michelle Simson and Alice Wong.

 

Acting Members present: Lise Zarac for Hon. Anita Neville.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Julie Cool, Analyst; Sandra Gruescu, Analyst.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Monday, April 12, 2010, the Committee resumed its study of maternal and child health.
 

The Committee commenced consideration of a draft report.

 

At 4:49 p.m., the Committee resumed sitting in public.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

Anita Neville moved, — That the Minister of Status of Women appear before the Committee to explain the manner and criteria by which funding is distributed by Status of Women Canada through each of the Women's Community Fund and Women's Partnership Fund.

 

On motion of Cathy McLeod, it was agreed, — That the motion be amended by adding after the word “Committee” the following: “early in the Fall”.

 

The question was put on the motion, as amended, and it was agreed to, by a show of hands: YEAS: 10; NAYS: 0.

 

The motion, as amended, read as follows:

That the Minister of Status of Women appear before the Committee early in the Fall to explain the manner and criteria by which funding is distributed by Status of Women Canada through each of the Women's Community Fund and Women's Partnership Fund.

 

Anita Neville moved, — That the Committee examine: (a) the climate change impacts on women, and their adaptive and mitigative capacity; (b) the manner in which a gender perspective should be included in the design, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of national environmental policies, in particular strategies related to the impact of climate change on women and the allocation of resources with respect to sustainable development; (c) whether a gender-based analysis of Canada’s policies concerning climate change and sustainable development has been conducted, and if so, its conclusions; and (d) Canada’s role in ensuring that a gender perspective is included as part of the international community’s response to global climate change.

 

The question was put on the motion and it was agreed to, by a show of hands: YEAS: 6; NAYS: 3.

 

At 5:23 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
