The Standing Committee on Public Safety and National Security met in a televised session at 11:07 a.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, Garry Breitkreuz, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Garry Breitkreuz, Don Davies, Shelly Glover, Mark Holland, Andrew Kania, Dave MacKenzie, Phil McColeman, Maria Mourani, Rick Norlock, Robert Oliphant and Brent Rathgeber.

 

Acting Members present: Meili Faille for Serge Ménard, Carole Freeman for Serge Ménard and Gary Ralph Schellenberger for Dave MacKenzie.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Lyne Casavant, Analyst; Tanya Dupuis, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Mental Health Commission of Canada: Glenn Thompson, Secretary of the Board.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, April 28, 2009, the Committee resumed its study on federal corrections: mental health and addiction.
 

The witness made a statement and answered questions.

 

At 12:31 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:32 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That a Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure be established and be composed of the Chair, the two Vice-Chairs, a member of the other opposition party and two members of the governing party.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee hear witnesses on its study on federal corrections: mental health and addiction on January 26, 28 and February 2, 2010, and that on February 4, 2010, it give instructions to its analysts concerning a draft report.

 

At 1:03 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
