The Standing Committee on Public Safety and National Security met in a televised session at 9:10 a.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, the Chair, Garry Breitkreuz, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Garry Breitkreuz, Don Davies, Mark Holland, Andrew Kania, Dave MacKenzie, Phil McColeman, Serge Ménard, Rick Norlock, Robert Oliphant, Brent Rathgeber and Blake Richards.

 

Acting Members present: Robert Vincent for Maria Mourani.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Lyne Casavant, Analyst; Tanya Dupuis, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Correctional Service Canada: Don Head, Commissioner; Leslie MacLean, Assistant Commissioner, Health Services. Correctional Service Canada Review Panel: Rob Sampson, Chair.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, April 28, 2009, the Committee resumed its study of Federal Corrections: Mental Health and Addiction.
 

Don Head and Rob Sampson made statements and answered questions.

 

At 10:34 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 10:38 a.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That any dissenting opinions to the report on the review of the findings and recommendations of the Internal Inquiry into the Actions of Canadian Officials in relation to Abdullah Almalki, Ahmad Abou-Elmaati and Muayyed Nureddin (Iacobucci Inquiry) and the report from the Commission of Inquiry into the Actions of Canadian Officials in Relation to Maher Arar (Arar Inquiry) be submitted to the Clerk's office no later than Wednesday, June 17, 2009, at 9:00 a.m. in both official languages.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee proceed ot the clause-by-clause consideration of Bill C-34, an Act to amend the Criminal Code and other Acts on Thursday, June 18, 2009, and that any amendments to the Bill be submitted to the Clerk's office no later than Tuesday, June 16, 2009.

 

At 11:04 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
