The Standing Committee on Public Safety and National Security met in camera at 9:07 a.m. this day, in Room 371, West Block, the Chair, Garry Breitkreuz, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Garry Breitkreuz, Jack Harris, Mark Holland, Andrew Kania, Dave MacKenzie, Phil McColeman, Serge Ménard, Maria Mourani, Rick Norlock, Robert Oliphant, Brent Rathgeber and Blake Richards.

 

Associate Members present: Irene Mathyssen.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Lyne Casavant, Analyst; Tanya Dupuis, Analyst.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That the Committee hold a meeting on the Conductive Energy Weapon-Taser.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee hold two (2) meetings on a statutory review of the DNA Identification Act before the end of April 2009.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee hold two (2) meetings on a statutory review of the Sex Offender Information Registration Act before the end of April 2009.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee hold three (3) meetings on the report from the Internal Inquiry into the Actions of Canadian Officials in relation to Abdullah Almalki, Ahmad Abou-Elmaati and Muayyed Nureddin (Iacobucci Inquiry) and the Commission of Inquiry into the Actions of Canadian Officials in Relation to Maher Arar (Arar Inquiry), before the end of April 2009.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee hold three (3) meetings on security issues surrounding the Canada/United States border, including the question of a terrorist attack emergency plan at the Canada Border Services Agency, before the summer adjournment.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee begin a study of cyber-crime before the summer ajournment.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee hold a meeting on Correctional Service Canada before the summer adjournment.

 

At 10:36 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
