The Standing Committee on Public Safety and National Security met at 9:02 a.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, the Chair, Garry Breitkreuz, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Garry Breitkreuz, Mark Holland, Andrew Kania, Dave MacKenzie, Phil McColeman, Serge Ménard, Maria Mourani, Rick Norlock, Robert Oliphant, Brent Rathgeber and Blake Richards.

 

Acting Members present: Joe Comartin for Jack Harris.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Lyne Casavant, Analyst; Tanya Dupuis, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Royal Canadian Mounted Police: Raf Souccar, Deputy Commissioner, Federal Policing; Mike Furey, Inspector; Bob Paulson, Assistant Commissioner, National Security Criminal Investigations. Canada Border Services Agency: Stephen Rigby, President; Kimber Johnston, Vice-President, Enforcement Branch; Mike Jordan, Director General, Trade Programs Directorate.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, February 10, 2009, the Committee resumed its study of Border Security.
 

Stephen Rigby and Raf Souccar made statements and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

At 10:46 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 10:47 a.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee hear the United Kingdom Intelligence and Security Committee on March 26, 2009.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee hear additional witnesses in the context of its Border Security study, on May 5, 2009.

 

At 11:01 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
