The Subcommittee on International Human Rights of the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Development met in a televised session at 12:34 p.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, the Chair, Scott Reid, presiding.

 

Members of the Subcommittee present: Hon. Irwin Cotler, Russ Hiebert, Wayne Marston, Scott Reid, Mario Silva, David Sweet and Ève-Mary Thaï Thi Lac.

 

Acting Members present: Hon. Keith Martin for Mario Silva and Robert Oliphant for Hon. Irwin Cotler.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Robert Dufresne, Analyst; Melissa Radford, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: B'nai Brith Canada: David Matas, Senior Legal Counsel.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Subcommittee on Tuesday, March 3, 2009, the Subcommittee resumed its study of human rights in Iran.
 

The witness made a statement and answered questions.

 

At 1:31 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 1:34 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 
The Subcommittee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Subcommittee business.
 

It was agreed, — That the Chair invite the submission of briefs relating to the nuclear situation of Iran and that these documents be considered in camera by the Subcommittee.

 

It was agreed, — That Gary Mihollin, Director of the Wisconsin project on Nuclear Arms Control, be invited to appear before the Subcommittee on Thursday, April 23, 2009, via videoconference.

 

It was agreed, — That the Subcommittee give instructions to the Analysts on a draft report on its human rights in Iran study on Thursday, April 30, 2009.

 

At 2:02 p.m., the Subcommittee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
