The Standing Committee on Public Accounts met at 3:30 p.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, the Chair, Shawn Murphy, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: David Christopherson, Bonnie Crombie, Luc Desnoyers, Meili Faille, Daryl Kramp, Hon. Shawn Murphy, Yasmin Ratansi, Andrew Saxton, Bev Shipley, John Weston and Terence Young.

 

Acting Members present: Francis Valeriote for Yasmin Ratansi.

 

Associate Members present: Lee Richardson.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Andrew Kitching, Analyst; Alex Smith, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Treasury Board Secretariat: Bill Matthews, Executive Director, Government Accounting Policy and Reporting; Rod Monette, Comptroller General of Canada; John M. Morgan, Assistant Comptroller General, Financial Management and Analysis Sector. Office of the Auditor General of Canada: Tammy Squires, Principal; Douglas Timmins, Assistant Auditor General; John Wiersema, Deputy Auditor General. Department of Finance: Cheryl McMullin, Coordinator, Fiscal Policy Division.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(3)(g), the Committee commenced consideration of the Public Accounts of Canada 2008 referred to the Committee on Monday, December 1st, 2008.
 

John Wiersema and Rodney Monette made statements and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

The Chair presented the First Report from the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure which read as follows:

Your Subcommittee met on Tuesday, February 3, 2009, to consider the business of the Committee and agreed to make the following recommendation:

That on February 12, 2009, the Committee commence consideration of Chapter 4, "First Nations Child and Family Services Program - Indian and Northern Affairs Canada" of the May 2008 Report of the Auditor General of Canada.

 

On motion of David Christopherson, it was agreed, — That the First Report of the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure of the Standing Committee on Public Accounts be adopted.

 

At 5:22 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
