The Standing Committee on Government Operations and Estimates met in a televised session at 3:31 p.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, the Chair, Yasmin Ratansi, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Rob Anders, Diane Bourgeois, Judy Foote, Jacques Gourde, Martha Hall Findlay, Ed Holder, Pat Martin, Richard Nadeau, Yasmin Ratansi and Chris Warkentin.

 

Acting Members present: Ed Fast for Patrick Brown.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Lydia Scratch, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO): Christopher Smillie, Policy Analyst, Government and Regulatory Affairs, Building and Construction Trades Department, Canadian Office. International Union of Operating Engineers: Steven Schumann, Canadian Director, Government Affairs. United Association of Plumbers and Pipefitters: Larry Cann, Special Assistant Director, Canadian Region.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(3)(c) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Thursday, February 12, 2009, the Committee resumed its study of the economic stimulus package.
 

Christopher Smillie made a statement and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

 

At 4:50 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

 

At 4:52 p.m., the Committee resumed sitting in camera.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee held a briefing session in relation to its study of the Supplementary Estimates (B) 2009-2010: Vote 95b under CANADIAN HERITAGE, Vote 1b under GOVERNOR GENERAL, Vote 1b under PRIVY COUNCIL, Votes 1b, 5b and 7b under PUBLIC WORKS AND GOVERNMENT SERVICES and Votes 1b and 15b under TREASURY BOARD, referred to the Committee on Wednesday, November 4, 2009.
 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That a summary of the response from Infrastructure Canada to the motion for the production of documents agreed to by the Committee on Thursday, November 5, 2009, be prepared by the Committee’s analysts and that the Clerk be mandated to find out approximately how much time would be required for translation of the response into both official languages.

 

At 5:40 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
