The Standing Committee on Industry, Science and Technology met at 3:30 p.m. this day, in Room 308, West Block, the Chair, the Hon. Michael D.Chong, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Robert Bouchard, Gordon Brown, Hon. Michael D. Chong, Marc Garneau, Mike Lake, Brian Masse, Anthony Rota, Dave Van Kesteren, Robert Vincent, Mike Wallace and Chris Warkentin.

 

Acting Members present: Hon. Dan McTeague for Siobhan Coady.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Dan Shaw, Analyst; Dillan Theckedath, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Canadian Services Coalition: Michael Landry, Chair; Shirley-Ann George, Senior Vice-President, Policy, Canadian Chamber of Commerce. Conference Board of Canada: Michael Burt, Associate Director, Industrial Outlook, Trade and Investment.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Monday, November 2, 2009, the Committee resumed its study of the recent economic performance of the services sector in Canada.
 

Shirley-Ann George and Michael Burt made statements and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

 

At 15:56 p.m., pursuant to Standing Order 115(5), the sitting was suspended.

 

At 16:43 p.m., the Committee resumed.

 

The witnesses answered questions.

 

At 5:11 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 5:12 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That the proposed budget on the study of Bill C-27, Electronic Commerce Protection Act, in the amount of $27,600.00 be adopted.

 

It was agreed, — That the Chair present a report to the House requesting that the deadline for the presentation of the Committee’s final report to the House respecting Bill C-309, An Act establishing the Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Region of Northern Ontario, be extended to Wednesday, March 31, 2009.

 

At 5:16 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
